Tiger Direct - The Best Online Electronics Store
TigerDirect – My Haven for Electronic Purchases Back in 1998 when the dot coms were booming in Silicon Valley and I was living in Jacksonville, Florida [I'm a native west coast resident and grew up in the bay area about a 20 minute drive from Silicon Valley], I constantly lamented to myself, “I could be making fat money if I were back home.” For various reasons, including a severe debilitating illness, I moved to JAX [as the military personnel call it] in January of 1996 to live with my son that was stationed there. So the fact of the matter is I was in no condition to make 'fat money' regardless of where I was living at the time, yet the internet, computers and the exploding IT world provided endless scenarios of adventure and fortune which prompted me to 'hurry up' and regain my health. What I was able to do, physically, was read so I began studying HTML, XML, CSS, how to repair and upgrade hardware, etc. I had an AOL account and mastered email, social groups and all the 'freeware' sites with their priceless software downloads! My daydreams and intentions consisted of being well informed on all the topics that interested me and training myself to get into the hardware and webpage design aspect of things – when and if I got back 'home.' As things turned out, I did get back to the bay area in December of 1999 and I 'hit the ground' running so to speak looking for classes on programming and web design & management. Just about the time I felt my skills were marketable, had developed a business plan under the guidance of a noted grant writer and venture capital professional the dot com bubble burst! I took a job at a very high paying call center to pay my bills. . . . By 2001 I was totally convinced that I needed at least a 2 year degree in programming in order to 'really' build great websites and backed off pushing myself to master that skill. However, the desire to build systems, repair and maintain them was pulsing through my veins on full throttle! Fortunately my love for 'fixing' things paid off: I landed myself a job with the subcontractor of the California Lottery – the designer, provider and repair/maintenance company that kept the entire state's gaming system up and running! I was the proverbial 'fox in the hen house' when I got that job! I learned how to swap mother boards, video cards, memory chips, printers, power supplies and a host of other hardware feats that still draws admiration from technicians when I casually engage them in conversation when strolling thru some of the computer stores around town. . . . After two and a half years and the newly acquired skills of pointing antennae towards satellites, pinging, installing radio transmitters and all that converting from T1 to satellite gaming entailed, I was actually ready to strike out on my own building and servicing hardware systems! Of course I wasn't the only one I knew with the technology bug: I have two younger brothers in the “game,” one is a systems engineer and the other builds systems and masters network matters [I still don't know what his job description is]. So, I had lots of expertise available to me, on call, for free that assisted me in my confidence levels for hanging out my hardware shingle. Searching online one day for the lowest price for a digital camera I stumbled across Tiger Direct and their offerings. Since I was only 3 days from traveling to JAX for a two week vacation I was a bit anxious about getting my order delivered to me in time without having to pay exorbitant shipping rates. While talking to the customer service rep about the shipping options, I mentioned my timing dilemma and was promptly told that their main warehouse was in Florida and my camera could be shipped to my son's house and very well waiting for me when I arrived! Naturally, I've been an ardent fan ever since! I ordered the camera which also came with a rebate and was very satisfied with my choice as well as the fact that it did indeed arrive in JAX just a day after I did! Upon returning home and looking in the mail, I didn't see the rebate that I was expecting. After waiting until the end of the week, I gave Tiger Direct a call and was told that I needed to enter a code online from the receipt and do a few other things in order to get my rebate processed and in the mail to me. This was disconcerting because due to my traveling and the choice of having it delivered en route as opposed to my home, I wasn't sure where the receipt was. Again, the customer service rep was able to assist me by looking up my purchase information and supplying me with the needed code in order for me to get my rebate! That was in 2004. While I've bought some major electronic components from my local low price retailer [the kind that you need to drive back to the store and get a replacement right away if you want your system or the one you're building to work ASAP], I've continued to purchase cameras [upgrades], digital recorders, LCD monitors, disk drives and quite a few other components from Tiger Direct! In fact I'm so confident with the quality of and lowest price for their products I've even ordered parts from Tiger Direct for my customers and routinely recommend people to look at the Tiger Direct website before making any electronic purchases. I'm always gonna price compare – it's my nature and a rather intelligent way to handle financial resources. However, my first choice and my pricing standard is Tiger Direct, they always offer some of the best deals available on a wide variety of electronic products! YE is Here! S.U.R.-B.E.T.
