Self-Employed, WebPreneur and Penny Stocks - Wealth Building 101

Definition

In the U.S. financial markets, the term penny stock commonly refers to any stock trading outside one of the major exchanges (NYSE, NASDAQ, or AMEX), and is often considered pejorative. However, the official SEC definition[1] of a penny stock is a low-priced, speculative security of a very small company, regardless of market capitalization or whether it trades on a securitized exchange (like NYSE or NASDAQ) or an "over the counter" listing service, such as the OTCBB or Pink Sheets. The terms penny stock, microcap stock, small caps, and nano caps are sometimes all used interchangeably, however per the SEC definition, penny stock status is determined by share price, not market capitalization or listing service.

In the UK markets, a penny stock, or penny shares, as they are more commonly called, generally refer to a stock and shares in small cap companies, defined as being companies with a market capitalization of less than £100 million and/or a share price of less than £1 with a bid/offer spread greater than 10%...[2] In the UK Penny Shares are covered by a standard regulatory risk warning issued by the Financial Services Authority(FSA)[3]

In France, a penny stock generally refers to a risky stock with a price of less than 1 euro.[1]

Penny stocks generally have market caps under $500M, trade under $5.00 per share and are considered speculative, particularly those that trade on low volumes over the counter. (1)

Penny stocks are very minimally regulated by the SEC. In fact they are so volatile and without much oversight that they can easily be manipulated by the management, market makers and/or third parties. The SEC warns investors, especially new and inexperienced investors to be wary of penny stocks as they are often unloadable and/or unverifiable as to their true value. For all practical purposes I want that statement to serve as a veritable disclaimer as to my endorsing whole scale investment into the penny stock market. Maybe I am and maybe I'm not, however, just in case any penny stock that one may chose to purchase after reading this article and researching some of the sources fails to yield high returns the onus is upon the buyer. On the other hand should the guidance provided assist some of you accrue millions of dollars as does Timothy Sykes, I trust that you would see your way clear to make a donation to the "YEisHere: WebPrenuer Resource Central" research fund!

The Upside to Penny Stock Investment

Now let's get down to business. According to "Solve Your Problem.com" penny stocks are best purchased when a company is new and on the rise. This may be difficult to do if one is not accustomed to scouting out new and upcoming businesses or financial trends that a new business could capitalize on and build it's resources and credibility at the same time. Investing in the stock market with 'regular' traded stocks, bonds and mutual funds can be an extremely intimidating venture for anyone that hasn't been trained in finance, banking and of course investments. However, there are many that HAVE been trained and have developed a keen eye and sharp nose for 'sensing' such opportunities.

Tim Sykes hails from Orange, Connecticut born in 1981 and the mental school of, "let me see if I can tackle the stock market and make some money" to the extent that he invested his $12,415 Bar Mitzvah gift into the riskiest stock market arenas and grew that into $1.65 million in just under 4 years.. Subsequent to this phenomenal achievement, Sykes created a hedge fund which, "In 2006 his hedge fund was Barclay's #1 ranked Short-Bias Fund for 2003-2006. . ."(2) which eventually led him to a starring television role in the series, "Wall Street Warrior." Tim has recently launched a blog site, "Timothy Sykes.com" from which he shares tips, tricks and insight into generating income via the stock market vehicle.

The fact that Tim Sykes made himself into a millionaire by the time he was 22 is the stuff that the American Fairy Tale is made of. From "rags to riches," "up by the boot straps," "dogged determination prevails" etc. And it's all real. So if there's an expert that could reasonably assist with guiding investors of all age groups, backgrounds and investing amounts, Tim Sykes gets a green light especially with the addition of his blogging site. His site can be studied by those that have yet to generate a reasonable investment amount, without charge in order to get a feel for the investing world.
