NEWS: The #2 Internet Draw
According to a recent study conducted by Zatso, news is the number 2 destination for internet users. In an article posted on Entrepreneur.com, Jay Conrad Levinson states, "The Zatso study, "A View of the 21st Century News Consumer," looked at people's news reading habits on the web. It revealed that reading and getting news was the most popular online activity after e-mail." In general it seems that most people utilizing the internet do so with an established purpose in mind -- not aimless 'surfing' as many advertisers would have one to believe. Personalized news is the most subscribed to so that viewers can get the content most relevant to their needs/tastes. The article goes further to share another study by the Pew Research Center which suggests that netizens are more connected to friends and family though it isn't stated how or what that connection may be -- outside of email which is the number 1 reason people are using the web. Other major search/sites visited by netizens were information on products or interests [hobbies, etc.], travel, weather, education and health/medicine. More than 30 percent of online users are seeking job opportunities and more than 45 percent use some form of instant messaging. So the message is clear: provide pertinent information, reliable products and services and clear concise straight talk -- good old fashioned people-to-people communication.
