Before The Healing Is Done
By Yeis Here of S.U.R.-B.E.T. Enterprises
While it's true that life is a combination of joy and pain, ups and downs, goodness and sorrow far too many of us attempt to bypass the healing process and go from hurt to alright with just a decision to do so! Just as the current economic malaise requires not only an immediate stop to the very actions that brought it into being, the remedy includes stimulus packages, bailouts, tax cuts and a definite tightening of the proverbial 'belt.' There is also a natural need for healing/embracing the period of time it takes to go from bad to better. In this society of instant coffee, fast food, dial a date, easy divorce and overall spontaneous gratification, too few ever reap the benefits of healing from crises, injuries, bereavement and other hurts. It is all too evident in the profuse amount of prescribed anti-depressents, muscle relaxers, sleep and pain management medications. Then there is the multi-billion dollar over-the-counter numbing medications, along with the 'street drugs' that this country is dependent upon. All in an effort to skip the inevitable, though necessary healing time that nature requires to restore balance. And while we can thwart the healing process -- this is evidenced by the 'side-effects' of both prescribed and self selected medications -- without allowing healing to run it's natural course too many of us often set more problems in motion. The working class often isn't allowed more than 3 days for bereavement time -- that when a close relative dies. But what about the need to mourne divorce, foreclosure, job loss, homes lost to 'urban renewal', the end of a lifelong friendship, etc.? There are too many 'hurts' to list that are all life changing and require the time to heal, prior to moving on. And the poor of this nation are alloted no time to embrace their pain with dignity and respect: how are the poor among us expected to heal and gather enough energy to elevate themselves into a higher income bracket and/or more beneficial lifestyle? It's always a great relief when a tragedy is a one time occurrence such as limb loss or a fire that destroys inventory. The 'end' of the event is clear and the beginning of moving on is easily declared. Yet, for some pains such as an abusive rleationship, war and/or economic collapse, the 'end' often isn't within sight which causes another set of traumas due to insecurity and anxiety brought on by uncertainty. Few things are as stable in life as change. Change is inevitable, constant and guaranteed. When experiencing a major hurt often the only 'light at the end of the tunnel' is the promise of change -- which when given enough respect and time can and will insure we get the required ingredients to repair our lives. So, in the face of all that is uncertain around us, be reminded that change is ever present and ever transforming. And as we examine, cleanse and dress our wounds be encouraged to embrace and revere change. For Change, along with Time, is nature's prescription for all that ills us. Embrace change and mindfully take all the time necessary to heal: that's the requirement for thriving AFTER surviving a 'fall' -- not jumping ahead Before the Healing Is Done.
